What disability rights are under attack?

tara1842
A thoughtful military veteran sits in a wheelchair by a window, a folded American flag displayed on the table in front of him, symbolizing service and sacrifice.
Even our disabled vets rights are being thrown away.

We were warned. Now we fight.

There’s a lot of noise right now. Fear. Outrage. Scrambling. But here’s the truth:

We were told exactly what the Trump administration would do. It’s all spelled out in Project 2025 — a 900+ page roadmap developed by the Heritage Foundation and its coalition of over 50 conservative organizations. This isn't speculation. It's a blueprint. And now, they’re following it.

So instead of reacting like we didn’t know this was coming, we need to respond like a community that’s ready.

Exactly what disability rights are under attack?

Here’s what Project 2025 proposes — in black and white — and what is now being echoed by Trump's appointees and the 2025 Congress.

Education

  • Eliminate the U.S. Department of Education.

  • End federal enforcement of disability rights in education, including Section 504 and IDEA.

  • Move oversight of special education to the Department of Health and Human Services — decoupling it from education expertise.

  • Replace services for disabled students with $1,800–$2,000 vouchers, far less than the cost of therapies, supports, or accommodations.

  • Mandate military entrance exams (ASVAB) for all students in public schools — regardless of disability status or need for accommodations.

Healthcare & Civil Rights

  • Rollback ACA Section 1557, removing disability-based non-discrimination protections.

  • Allow hospitals to use quality-of-life metrics (QALYs) that devalue disabled lives during medical rationing.

  • Reinstate rules allowing providers and pharmacies to deny care based on personal beliefs — even when it puts disabled patients at risk.

  • End federal guidance enforcing Section 504 in healthcare settings.

Veterans

  • Reassess and reduce VA disability ratings, potentially cutting benefits.

  • Privatize VA claims processing, risking access and accountability for disabled veterans.

Employment, Housing, and More

  • Eliminate all Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices, including those focused on accessibility.

  • Expand “religious liberty” exemptions that could override protections for disabled workers, students, and tenants.

The Point Isn’t Panic — It’s Power.

This isn’t the time to run in circles or just post in anger. It’s time to:

  • Get clear on the facts.

  • Mobilize the community.

  • Go on offense.

We have the tools. We have the numbers. And most of all, we have the stories that can change minds, hold leaders accountable, and remind America what’s at stake.

Here's What You Can Do Right Now:

We knew what was coming. Now we show what we’re made of.

Because real patriots believe in Yes! Access for All. And we’re not leaving anyone behind.
