Fight to Keep Our Rights

In an era where progress should be the norm, disability rights continue to face unprecedented challenges. As a community, we must remain vigilant and proactive in defending the hard-won protections that ensure equal opportunities and access for individuals with disabilities. The fight for these rights is far from over, and it's crucial that we not only maintain what we've achieved but also push for further advancements.

The importance of advocacy in this realm cannot be overstated. Our rights, from accessibility in public spaces to equal employment opportunities, were not gifted to us—they were earned through years of persistent activism and lobbying. However, these rights are constantly under threat from budget cuts, policy changes, and societal misconceptions. Every voice raised in support of disability rights contributes to a chorus that cannot be ignored by policymakers and the general public alike.

Moreover, advocating for disability rights benefits society as a whole. Inclusive design and policies create environments that are more accessible and user-friendly for everyone, not just those with disabilities. By fighting for these rights, we're championing a world that values diversity and recognizes the unique contributions of all individuals, regardless of their abilities.

Join any or all of our 3 Action Items to Make a Difference

  1. Let’s Get Social: Make a Video: Make a video about why disability rights matter to you, why they are important – you can talk about any disability topic that is important like the attacks on 504, the threats to Medicaid, the ongoing lack of accessibility etc. Be sure to post on your social media with the hashtag #NoOneLeftBehind or #BeLikeJudy

  2. Engage with Local Representatives: Contact your local and state representatives to express your concerns about disability rights. Attend town halls, write letters, or schedule meetings to discuss specific issues and propose solutions. Your voice can influence policy decisions. Use the website 5calls.org to get scripts on issues and easily contact your representatives.

  3. Support Disability Rights Organizations: Volunteer your time or donate to reputable organizations fighting for disability rights. These groups often lead important advocacy efforts and legal battles to protect and advance our rights.

By taking these actions, we can create a united front against the erosion of disability rights. Remember, the power to effect change lies within each of us. Let's stand together to ensure a future where equality and inclusion are not just ideals, but realities for all.
